The father of modern science

Image
"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them"  Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was born in Pisa, Italy. He spent years observing the movements of the planets through a telescope. At the time it was generally thought that the earth was the centre of the universe. Galileo believed, as Copernicus had done seventy years before, that the earth rotated on its axis once daily and traveled round the sun once every year. At the time, this was a fantastic concept and considered as dangerous by the Church who had told: "The proposition that the sun is in the centre of the world is absurd, philosophically false and heretical; it is contrary to Holy Scriptures" In 1633 he was considered guilty of heresy and spent the final years of life imprisoned in his own home. Galileo is referred as 'the father of modern science'. He paved the way for the separation of science and religion.

How Meghan Markle and Prince Harry broke royal traditions

Image
During the wedding a lot of royal traditions were broken. Fortunately, these changes were acceptable by the Queen. Number one: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry changed a lot over the Saturday wedding which was held at St. George's Chapel. The biggest break to royal protocol: the couple held hands during the ceremony—which is traditionally forbidden. Number two: On May 19th, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will wed at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Traditionally, most royal couples get married at the capital's Westminster Abbey (for example, Prince William and Kate Middleton did it in 2011). This choice of venue isn't a full break rule from royal protocol—they followed a number of royal couples who walked down at the Windsor Castle. For instatnce, Harry's cousin, Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn Kelly were married at St. George's Chapel in 2008. Harry's father, Prince Charles, and stepmother, Camilla Parker Bowles, had a special blessing cer

The Royal Wedding 2018

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married on May 19th, 2018. The decision to have a wedding on a Saturday was against tradition because usually royal weddings take place during a week. On the morning, 19th, it was announced that the Queen has given a Dukedom on Prince Henry of Wales. His titles is now Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. Prince Harry is His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex, and Markle has become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex. The marriage of Prince Harry and Markle took place in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. They became the 16th royal couple to celebrate their marriage at Windsor Castle since 1863. The Queen has given a permission for the ceremony in the place which seats approximately 800 people. Everything was paid for by the royal family. On the morning of the wedding, Meghan Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, accompanied her to Windsor Castle. Markle's father, Thomas Markle, wasn't at the wedding

Southampton - "the Gateway to the World"

Image
128 kilometres from London lies the world-famous international port of Southampton, a veritable maritime hub known in Victorian times as the Gateway to the Empire and now called the Gateway to the World. The earliest settlements in the Southampton were seen in the Stone Age. The Romans, having conquered Britain, established the coastal defence settlement and trading port of Clausentum. In the 400s the Anglo-Saxons founded a new settlement near Clausentum, named Hampton from which deserves the name "the Country of Hampshire". The reign of Queen Victoria was the period when Southampton really began to expand. As the railway to London became work in 1840 and in 1842 was opened the city's first business dock owned by the Southampton Docks Company. Today, Southampton has an estimated population of approximately 251,565 inhabitants. Reaching it by public transport is easy: it's just one hour and nineteen minutes from London by train. The power of Elvis Presley

Image
"If you like rock 'n'roll, if you feel it, you can't help but move to it. That's what happens to me. I can't help it" Elvis Presley (1935-1977) is known as "the King". When he arrived on the pop scene in 1956, he introduced a new rhythm to music, sex, language and fashion. Before his arrival, adolescent kids dressed like their parents. Then Elvis shook his hips and changed everything. This new sex symbol charmed one generation and the same time discouraged another. Boys wanted to be him, girls fell in love with him and, what is more, all their parents hated him. The teenager was born. He did more than anyone else to invent youth culture. However, he was considered a dangerous threat to society. John Lennon said "Nothing really affected me until I heard Elvis. If there hadn't been an Elvis, there wouldn't have been a Beatles"
